5th Annual Neighborfest November 9th at Tatiana’s!

in Uncategorized on October 30th, 2012 | Comments Off

We’re excited to announce the next Neighborfest, a celebration of neighborhood in Lynn supporting Building Bridges Through Music and Extras for Creative Learning, two great non-profits in the downtown.

Every year, we come together at Tatiana’s Restaurant in Lynn’s downtown to mingle with city officials, friends, neighbors and folks from all of Lynn’s unique neighborhoods, so that we may get to know one another better. Whether you’re a proud life-long-Lynner or you just moved in, you’re just as welcome.

Your $15 at the door will in part support the organizations above, include an entree for a raffle prize (TBA), a light buffet, and entertainment. At 9:30pm, Tigerman, a band featuring some good folks who work at GE, will take the Neighborfest Stage.

New this year – order tickets in advance!

DTL stands for Downtown Lynn. Open means just what it always means. The Downtown Lynn Neighborhood Association (DTLna) has taken the tried and true open studios concept and turned it into an open (almost) everything for the first of what the association hopes will become a much larger annual event, one that will include everything DTL and draw Lynners and out-of-Lynners alike.

“We’ll give you a map, and you can walk to all of it.” …Read more

The Downtown Lynn Neighborhood Association proudly presents the first openDTL, a neighborhood-wide open house with arts, music, peeks into residences, arts organizations, museums and businesses.

To participate on Saturday, June 23rd and become a dot on the accompanying map, simply be open during the hours of 11am to 5pm, offer a discounted special, demonstration, or other promotion of your choice for the day, and agree to place an openDTL sign in your window or prominently within your business prior to and on June 23rd. The day of, we may provide you with a balloon to place outside. That’s it! Of course, talking it up to your friends and customers couldn’t hurt, either!

The outdoor events will occur in the lot adjacent to LynnArts and the Central Square Island, with a possible farmer’s market/CSA promotion by the Munroe/Oxford Street garden plots. There will be no street closures to contend with. This event is to show that we are open for business and to celebrate our Arts & Culture District designation.

Artist table space is available for $25 for the duration of the event in the stage area or on the Central Square Island, subject to approval by a curating committee and a full day commitment. There will also be a small neighborhood yard sale area.

In the evening, Arts After Hours hosts the official after party with the Meet Ball on the roof deck of the new Allcare VNA!

To participate, and for all related inquiries, please email events@dtlna.org or call Seth Albaum at 617-899-7951.

MBTA Public Hearing Feb 7

in Uncategorized on January 31st, 2012 | Comments Off

DTLna updates

By now, I’m sure you’ve heard about the financial troubles of the MBTA and proposed cut backs in service and fare hikes. The MBTA has been holding a series of public hearings, and there’s one in Lynn on Tuesday, February 7th, 6 – 8pm in City Hall. (either the auditorium or council chambers)

With so many DTL residents dependent on the commuter rail and bus system, it’s important to show up. Even if you can not arrive by 6pm, your eventual presence will still be appreciated.

DTLna as an organization is usually neutral on political and governmental issues, though regardless of how you think the matter should be handled, we’re talking about a critical piece of DTL’s infrastructure. It’s important that we use the opportunity to express whatever our thoughts may be, or in the least, even being there in the room sends a powerful message.
